March 29th, 2008 Gold Teeth

Gold teeth come in two forms: gold dental crowns and removable gold teeth. A dentist fits the gold dental crowns, and the main reason he uses gold is because it is a very workable metal that makes a perfect crown fit.

As gold teeth are metal, they withstand biting and chewing forces without chipping or breaking. Metal dental crowns are usually placed on teeth that are not visible when smiling. So when making a gold dental crown, your spouse’s perspective is needed as he or she is the one seeing you smile with the gold dental crown.

Those who do not want a permanent gold tooth could try a removable gold tooth. This type of gold tooth is basically used as jewelry and not like a filling as the gold crown. Gold teeth have been growing increasingly popular and are called by different names like gold fonts, gold caps, and gold slugs. These gold teeth are customized to fit your mouth, with the caps sliding over your existing teeth, so you can actually snap them on and off at leisure. Gold teeth are made in fourteen-carat, eighteen-karat and twenty-two carat gold and also with white gold, silver and 950 platinum; they can also be ordered through the Internet.

A typical gold-tooth website gives you various gold teeth examples to choose from and also gives you the choice of designing your personal set of gold teeth. After choosing the design for the gold teeth, you order the starter kit, which has a mouth mold impression kit. You take the impression and send it back to the online store whose lab crafts the caps according to the mold. The result is a perfect set of gold teeth.

As gold teeth are removable, they can be worn on weekends to be removed on Monday when going for work. You could also design different caps and wear them according to your wardrobe. However, it is not recommended to eat or sleep with the gold teeth since they are a piece of jewelry they have to be put on and off like other jewelry.

March 29th, 2008 Adult Acne - The Facts

Did you know that acne is considered to be the most widespread skin condition in the world? While its occurrence is most common amongst adolescents, men and women in their thirties and forties have also been known to suffer from acne. Adult acne then refers to acne that begins or continues in one’s adult years. It is not different from the acne of adolescence - it can be in the form of acne vulgaris, cystic acne, acne rosacea etc.

Adult acne has become fairly common, especially in women. Acne is caused by hormonal imbalance in the body. The male hormones responsible for triggering off teen acne are also at work in adults. For instance, adult acne can be seen in women going through menopause, when hormonal changes come about. As the body limits the production of estrogen, androgens, the male hormones responsible for acne, cause an excessive production of sebum by the sebaceous glands. Acne in adults can be caused by hormonal imbalances, vitamin deficiency, stress, drugs or more probably a combination of all these factors in varying degrees.

A severe form of acne called acne conglobata may result in permanent scarring of the skin. Other forms of acne such as chloracne, which is caused by chlorinated compounds, has also been seen in adults. Adults, especially women over the age of 30 can also get acne rosacea, in which the capillaries in the cheeks, forehead, and nose are swollen with blood, and the oil glands in the skin become infected. Underlying endocrine disorder in adults can reveal itself in the form of severe acne.

Like in teenagers, the bacteria that are present in the clogged pores, causes the skin to become red and inflamed and acne becomes visible in the form of papules, pustules and cysts. Adult acne can be found in people with combination or even dry and sensitive skins, as opposed to teenage acne, in which oily skin is fairly characteristic. Thus acne medications intended to treat teenage acne may not be that effective as they contain benzoyl peroxide, salicyclic acid and other ingredients that can be drying and cause irritation.

Care of skin inflicted with adult acne is similar to treating teen acne. One should gently clean the skin once or twice a day, as well as after heavy sweating, like after a workout to keep the pores clean and bacteria free. Make sure that the moisturizers, creams, sunscreens and lotions that you use are the oil free variety, that will not clog your pores. A balanced diet, a regular exercise routine and reduced levels of stress will all add to your physical well being and positively affect your acne.

March 29th, 2008 Humor - Appropriate For Work?

Very few people really enjoy going to their jobs. Let’s face it, most bosses are a pain, the work isn’t very interesting and even if it is, after a while it gets routine. The days are long and when times are slow, they are even longer. Boredom can easily settle in. Some people try to combat this boredom by bringing a little humor into the work place. What follows are two true stories.

One gentleman worked for a medical software company. It was their slow sales and support season and finding things to stay busy was not easy. So this man, who was also an amateur ventriloquist, brought one of his dummies into work. Fortunately, this guy was very well liked and the people in the office, including his supervisor, all got a kick out of it. The jokes and one liners were flying fast and furious. Everyone was having a good time. Then, one worker walked in who had a terrible phobia of dummies. She verbally abused the other employee and then filed a complaint. The employee was ultimately asked to put the dummy away and never bring it back.

Another gentleman who was working at a business school as a computer instructor held a joke session in the teachers’ lunch room. All the teachers were asked to get up and tell their favorite jokes. This was all well and good until one of the teachers told an ethnic joke. One of the people in the room was of this ethnicity and became very insulted. He filed a complaint and a lawsuit resulted against the school.

These are just two of the probably many cases of humor at the work place turning into an ugly scene. The truth is, what one person finds funny or entertaining, another person may find offensive. When that happens, complaints are bound to be made and that’s when the trouble starts.

So what is a company to do? Do they allow humor? Do they post rules that no forms of humorous entertainment or even casual talk be allowed? What if two friends are talking in private on the job and are telling each other jokes? What it somebody walks by and overhears one of the jokes and is offended by the joke? Is it the fault of the two employees that a private conversation was overheard? Where do we draw the line when it comes to allowing humor in the work place?

Unfortunately, what many companies do and a big reason why work is such a miserable place to be, is prohibit all conversation on the actual work premises that does not directly involve doing the job itself. People who are caught breaking this rule are given a reprimand the first time and on a second offense are given some sort of punishment. If the violations continue, they are let go.

Fair? Maybe not. But in an age where everyone has to be politically correct or face possible lawsuits it may be the only course of action they can take to solve the problem.

March 29th, 2008 Mesothelioma Symptoms: An Overview

Malignant mesotheliomas are rare cancers that form in the tissues lining the lungs (pleura), abdomen (peritoneum) or heart (pericardium). Pleural mesothelioma, which affects the lining of the lungs, is the most common, accounting for about 75 percent of all malignant mesotheliomas. Between ten and twenty percent of all malignant mesotheliomas are peritoneal mesotheliomas. Pericardial mesotheliomas are extremely rare. A history of exposure to asbestos is found in most individuals with mesothelioma. The time from exposure to onset of cancer may be as long as thirty years; this is why most people with malignant mesothelioma are between 50 and 70 years old.

Many symptoms of malignant mesothelioma are non-specific, and are also seen in a number of other chest and abdominal conditions. This, combined with the lack of an accurate history of asbestos exposure in some patients, may considerably delay diagnosis. The majority of people with mesothelioma only have symptoms during the two to three months before they are diagnosed. About one quarter of all people with malignant mesothelioma have symptoms for about six months before diagnosis.

Once symptoms are present, they may depend on the location of the primary cancer. In general, symptoms become more pronounced with more advanced disease. With pleural mesothelioma, common symptoms are difficulty breathing, cough, pain in the chest or under the ribcage, coughing up blood, hoarseness, and the collection of fluid or pleural effusion in the pleural cavity. The face and arms may swell up. Many of these symptoms and signs are also seen with lung cancer.

With peritoneal mesothelioma, symptoms may include a lump or swelling in the abdomen, abdominal pain, fluid in the abdomen, constipation due to bowel obstruction, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Patients suffering from pericardial mesothelioma may experience chest pain, breathlessness and palpitations. Some symptoms of malignant mesothelioma are common to many cancers. These include unexplained weight loss, fever and fatigue.

March 29th, 2008 Get Some Great Shots of Your Cat

The domestic cat must be one of the most photographed animals. Who hasn’t taken a picture at some time of the family puss? At first it is simply to try out the new camera but as time goes on getting a “cat in every position” seems almost like an obsession! But who, apart from you and your nearest, wants to see the umpteenth picture of the house moggie even if it is in a slightly different pose?

Now is the time to improvise and innovate! The family cat (or dog for that matter) can be a source of some great shots (and yes, you can still take and keep the usual pretty pictures as well).

Next time you want to take some decent images of your cat, think of the following:

- the cat hiding behind something, ready to pounce

- an action shot, the cat going scatty or engaged in an activity

- a close up - get in real close, use macro or close up lenses (and a reflector)

- a studio shot - keep the background plain and contrasting

- employ a human to be part of the shot - the cat walking around stockinged feet or boots

- get a prop - a chair, bed, shelf, bench

- focus on detail - fur, eyes, teeth

- combine the cat with something appropriate but unusual - a gigantic ball of wool or a large fluffy mouse

- cats and babies are really cute!

- get the cat to sit with an unusual, contrasting, object - on a cycle, with some fruit, in the bath

I am sure you can think of more. Take lots of images so that you get one that looks the part.

Cats are willing participants and readily available. And you don’t need to go outside!

March 29th, 2008 The Secrets to Loving What You Do

How was your day? Did you wake up this morning with the feeling
that you just wanted to stay in bed all day and not bother to
work again? Did your day end with you hoping it is the last day
of the week when your week has just started?

We can say that the feeling of not wanting to get up from bed is
due to some previous sleepless nights, too much activities the
day before or hangover. Being so restless after a day’s work can
be due to having a hectic day or not having enough sleep at
night. Both can also be due to not being happy with what you do.

Very few people are lucky enough to immediately land on a path
to their dream job. Few people have their first jobs at their
dream company. Few even get a job that they wanted.

Of course, if one wants to be a partner at a law firm, one
doesn’t just have to finish law school, pass the bar and be
hired as a partner. He or she has to work hard for several
years. But a bar passer can be fortunate if he or she is offered
a job by a reputable law firm. Many lawyers find it hard to get
a job that allows them to practice law.

So how can one be happy in their jobs? Here are some tips.

* Look for a hobby.

You may not be able to use your interests or skills in the job
in which you are currently employed, but you can always look for
other options to practice them.

If you love writing, perhaps you can be a freelance writer,
start a web log (blog) or submit your works to publishing
companies. Doing something you enjoy relieves you the stress of
doing something that doesn’t catch your interest.

It could also be something that you can look forward to at the
end of each task at work, that you will be excited about
successfully finishing each assignment at work. It’s like giving
you a reward for each job well done.

* Look for a challenge.

Some people don’t feel like going to work because their daily
work life has been monotonous. A secretary might just have to
spend her day typing letters and receiving guests, and this can
sometimes be a dull task.

However, she can try to make herself better by learning a
different language that she can use when speaking with foreign
guests. Moreover, learning new skills can also help in getting a
promotion and a raise.

* Spend time to relax.

Many people do not really dislike their jobs, but just spend so
much time at their desk or at work that they get burnt out.

Doing a hobby, reading a book, seeing a movie, and spending time
with family and friends are good stress busters. Also, forget
your diet sometimes and just reward yourself with a scoop of ice
cream or chocolate.

Or if you really wanted to stick to your diet, just take a walk
in the park, visit places that you’ve never been to, do things
that you’ve never done, or just play with your dog. After all,
animals were proven to reduce stress levels and blood pressure.

* Change your job.

If you have tried all of the above and still feel the same,
probably, it time to change your job. Maybe, it’s some of your
company’s practices that don’t work for you, and then transfer
to a different company but have the same job.

Or if you really like your company, but you don’t like your job,
maybe you can talk to your human resources personnel about
options for transferring to a different department. Or perhaps,
you are looking opportunities for growth.

Always make research by asking the HR staff and by checking
online on how you can increase your qualifications so you can
get a promotion.

Changing jobs can be risky, especially if you are jumping to a
different field. You may initially be given a job that is below
your qualifications, be given a lower salary than what you were
previously receiving, and you will have to undergo an adjustment
process. So do this only if you are left with no other options
with your current job and company.

These are just some ways on how to love and enjoy what you do. A
famous quote says “If you find something that you love to do,
you never have to work again a single day in your life.”

March 28th, 2008 Baby Bedding

When you choose a baby bedding, choose the one which can guarantee optimum baby bedding safety and coziness to your baby. The best fabric for the baby would be 100 percent cotton. Below are descriptions of the different types of nursery bedding for each type of furniture.

Crib Bedding:
Until the baby is one or one and a half years old, the crib is its ideal bed. Cribs are of many different types, but they all need to be strong and durable. You could choose a standard crib, or go for a more expensive one such as a convertible or portable crib which would be ideal for traveling. It is best to always choose a crib from a reputable company.

Bassinet bedding:
Bassinets are suitable for the baby for the first 3 or 4 months. A perfect bassinet will have a soft cuddly mattress, a small little pillow and a blanket. A bassinet should be made of soft material with preferably the color blending with the baby’s room.

Cradle bedding:
Cradles have a lovely rocking motion which makes sure that the baby gets a sound sleep. Light colored cradles are preferred by parents because they look nice and you can notice when they get wet.

Baby blankets:
Baby blankets should be of soft material and must be non toxic. Today there are many types of blankets to choose from that will be soft, smooth, and pleasant smelling with attractive and eye pleasing colors.

Bedding for the baby could be different for a boy or a girl. They could be gender neutral as well. The color combination and the cute looking cartoons are common to both the gender.

Normally for the girls, the baby bedding is replete with shades of pink, light blue and purples. A baby girl’s bed is laid out like a princess. A baby boy’s bed is sport oriented. You could see baby bedding for boys themed around superheroes, WWE personalities or baseball stars. The colors tend to be darker and bolder for boys.

As pointed out above, it is not a hard and fast rule for the baby bedding to be in a certain set of preferences for baby boys and girls. In fact you will see a lot of neutral nursery bedding themes with regard to cartoons like Disney or Popeye characters or cute animations.

The kids are too small to understand the difference about having gender specific cartoons and animals and they are attracted to anything which pleases their eyes and make them smile. It is just that when they get a little older, little boys would feel a little awkward having his bed done in pinks and pastels.

When baby girls grow older, their beds could have blinds with the curtains hanging on rods above. This gives the bed somewhat a princess bed kind of appearance. Not that the girls would be complaining!

Bedding is one interesting avenue where there are a lot of options in store for the parent from choosing the kind and texture of sheets, the choice of colors and baby bedding patterns.

While purchasing a baby bed it is up to you if you choose a gender neutral baby bed or something which would make her feel like a princess or make him feel like a superhero.

March 28th, 2008 Can I Make A Difference?

How can one regular individual help make this world a better place. This is a question I ask myself quite often. In our daily life we want the good things. Our educational system teaches us to get a career, have a good social standing, to become something. Materialism is popular; we want a nice car, a nice home, and nice clothes. We achieve this is by earning as much money as we can in order to attain a certain lifestyle. So money becomes important and relationship begins to be about what you can get from another.

No one denies that we need skills. There are many positive things achieved through our education. We have had many amazing inventions. However there seems to be many imbalances, on one side of the world we have everything and on the other there is great poverty.

As an individual you can feel hopeless in the wake of all that is going on in the world. Your actions may seem useless, when weighed against the greater scheme of things. Environmentally your recycling may not add up to much. Why bother anyway if everyone else does not care. What will I be left with?

There are no easy answers. It is true, The thing you do will not add up to much, if you compared it to everything else. So what can an individual do? It is easy to say care, have affection, be patient, help others.

The truth is you can do this. The truth is you can make a difference. This difference may only be in one person’s life but it is a difference. However if the reason you do these things is to feel good about yourself then it is more about you than others.

If your question is why should I? or what will I be left with. Then the inevitable answer is that your chief concern is about yourself. In the outward fashion you may take action but ultimately you will not be helping, you will be adding to the problem because you perpetuating the importance of me, myself and I.

The truth of being selfish is hard to deal with. You may have all sorts of reactions to it, like tomorrow I am going to think of others. The problem is, this is a reaction. Reactions are always in conflict with themselves. Therefore you will always be just reacting and not understanding.

To really help this world you must begin with yourself. You must find out the truth of who you are. Sure you have to eat, sure you need a roof over your head, and sure you need money. No one can deny these things. However beyond that, why do you need self importance or self indulgence? Find out for yourself. Take time out and ask this question of yourself. Do it today.

March 28th, 2008 Ebay Auction Pricing Strategies.

If your items aren’t selling, then you might have a bad pricing strategy. There as many pricing strategies in the world as there are buyers - if you look at two businesses selling the same thing, often the only difference you’ll be able to find between them is pricing.

The ‘Few Dollars More’ Strategy.

Here’s something you might not have thought of. If you set your auction’s starting price to what you would usually charge for Buy it Now, while setting the Buy it Now price a few dollars above, you can make a profit by setting off an interesting psychological reaction in the buyer’s mind.

Here’s what they’ll think. They want the item, but why should they bother bidding for it? After all, they could use Buy it Now for just a few dollars more, and be sure of getting it! Doing things this way makes the value of the Buy it Now option extra clear to the buyer, and makes them more willing to pay extra for the privilege.

The ‘One Dollar Less’ Strategy.

This is simple, but requires you to keep an eagle eye on your competition. As soon as they start a Buy it Now auction for an item you stock, start an auction for one of those items yourself. Match the title closely, but price your item one dollar less than theirs. This will mean that your auctions will sit together in the search results, and who’s going to see both and go for the one that’s a dollar more expensive?

The ‘Free Shipping’ Strategy.

Buyers really hate paying for shipping. With Buy it Now, you might find it easier to incorporate the shipping cost into the main price of the item, and then write “free shipping” in the auction’s title. You’d be surprised how many buyers would prefer to pay one price including shipping for the auction, instead of having shipping added on at the checkout. Again, this is psychological: they pay the same at the end, but it doesn’t feel like they’ve paid an unnecessary ‘extra’ cost for Internet shopping.

The ‘Go for It’ Strategy.

If you’d like a slightly more risky strategy, try this. List your item for the maximum duration (ten days), starting the listing on a Thursday so it goes across two weekends and finishes on a Sunday. Set the starting price to the minimum (one cent).

What you’re trying to do here is give bidders as long as possible to discover your auction, so that they push the price up themselves. Pay for a few upgrades like bold and highlight, to give them a helping hand. If you do this right, you can make a much bigger profit than you would have with any Buy it Now price, especially with a medium or high value item.

Since running your auction for longer means that more people see it, you should always take the longest duration of ten days, right? Not always. In the next email, we’ll talk about how long your eBay auction should run for.

March 28th, 2008 Aesthetics and Web Marketing

For four years I worked in the editorial department of a major Internet directory. My job required me to search for and review thousands upon thousands of Web sites. Oh, the horror!

I could tell you about the company that misspelled its own name. I could rhyme off a list of sites that had no contact information. I could even show you the university site that had a navigation button reading “Course Summery.” But I won’t. Instead, I want to address the less obvious and the overlooked: Web site aesthetics.

With more and more people searching and using the Internet to find products and services, a strong visual literacy has developed. Little animated GIFs that depict a construction worker with the words “Under Construction” blinking underneath have gone by the wayside. Well, in most cases. These are signifiers of “old school” design, when the Web was young. Today, a certain design standard is expected.

What many companies fail to understand is this: the site visitor is not a passive viewer, but an active user of the site, forming opinions about the site and the company it represents. The company image is not what the company thinks it is, but rather what the public perceives it to be. This encompasses the textual and visual cues the company provides the prospective client. Surveys have shown that Internet users base Web site credibility on two primary factors - design look and information/design structure. If companies really understood this, one would hope that there would be less horrific design on the Web.

Web site aesthetics support the company’s marketing strategy. Proper aesthetic design can add value to a page by reinforcing a company’s image, strengthening brand identification and creating a positive image in the public eye.

It is impossible to appeal to every visitor’s individual taste, but it is possible to create a site that reflects the company’s image and elicits a positive response from viewers. Good layout, colour, style and font type can influence the site user’s assumptions about the company, or its products and services.

Businesses must understand their demographic and appeal to that visual sensibility. Too often companies are convinced by design firms try to be something they aren’t. Why an accounting firm would need a Flash intro is beyond me. Invest in simple, clean design that reflects the spirit and guiding principles of the company.

Site attractiveness also aids navigation and usability as well as adding to the enjoyment and overall site experience for the user. One of the main reasons that a user will leave a site quickly is not being able to find relevant content. When the aesthetics are good, the navigation buttons are easy to read, clearly labeled and, lastly, quickly found and identified.

Aesthetics are not frivolous or wasteful. To ensure a successful site, companies must not only consider the nuts and bolts of the technical side of the site, but the visual appeal that the site holds for the user. A well-designed site will be cost-effective as it will last longer, create value for the client and help market the company in the most professional way. Good design aesthetics add tangible benefits such as improved client response to the Web site and a memorable and solid company image.
