May 20th, 2009 Why Travel to Val D’Isere in the Alps

Unrivaled amongst most famed skiing mountains, Val d’Isre vaunts 488 kilometres of pistes and is easily accessible from Geneva airport. Skiing gets going during November and terminates in May. The purpose built French village caters everything for you. The town stretches along the valley from La Daille as far as Le Fornet with the apres ski in the centre of Val d’Isere itself. This cluster of cute houses contain smart boutiques most of which have arisen since the resort was picked for the Winter Olympics.

Spred over 3 parts the town has plenty of pistes for all levels of skiers. Val d’Isere has a fab historical snow record, the area is hugely popular amidst advanced skiers and boarders and motorway skiing intermediates, on the other hand you do not have to be especially adventurous to love what is on offer. One can easily see why numerous British are drawn to the village, with its renowned apres ski and the wide variety of entertainment on offer, however the proximity of Tignes enables you to head out to less frantic areas if it all becomes a bit much.

Pros

A superior night-life in the French Alps. Everybody speaks English. Comfortable access to Val d’Isre and Tignes known collectively as the the Espace Killy skiing area. There is lots of cars and though there are frequent buses in the daytime, devoted apres skiers should head to be within a short walking distance of the town.

Cons

Pricy. Frantic and fashionable with English clientle, thus not for those looking for a typical French ski town to savour a calming ski holiday. Many lifts can close in stormy conditions. Some hard blue and green slopes.
