Telecommunications research firm Point Topic recently released a report on the next generation broadband expansion planned by BT Openreach. The report includes maps of the According to estimates, around 34.8 percent (around 21,350,000 people) of the subscribers will be able to access the new broadband service by the end of the project in 2012. The initial phases will witness about 7.4 percent of the British population benefiting from the new scheme, while by the end of 2011, the new age broadband internet service would have reached as many as 10 million people constituting around 16.3 percent of the population of the UK. However, the Chief Analyst at Point Topic, Tim Johnson, pointed out that the present plans are insufficient to satisfy the ever-increasing need of broadband in high demand areas. The report has pointed out that there is a possibility of rift between neighbours who might end up experiencing different speeds (click for broadband test) in the same vicinity. Point Topic believes that the current implementation of the plan will lead to people living close by experiencing slower speeds than the new-high speed services, and this may create controversy.
