Andrew Brash last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.” Climber from Nepal, 74, oldest mountaineer to climb to the top of Chomolungma or Mount Everest The Chinese were flying their airplanes over Mt Everest and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. Therefore, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Bahadur Sherchan with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. Sherchan just 11 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. Further, he was all too aware of the potential dangers Everest could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused This year French climber Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Chomolungma after he reached the summit of Mont Blanc in France earlier this season. The 76-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of the Mount Everest. “Mt Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration. His first found him within 213 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. One year later, Min Bahadur Sherchan, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Everest to finish what he had started. They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.” Now that Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Andrew Brash noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. Min Bahadur Sherchan returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Mount Everest. Andrew Brash and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on Chomolungma. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though Chomolungma or Mount Everest is shared by two countries. More than 3023 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay. | June 30th, 2008 | Tiger Woods Wins Again |
Tiger Woods today strolled to his second British Open Golf title finishing fourteen shots under par, five shots ahead of the veteran, the Scot Colin Montgomerie. It was Tiger’s tenth success in major tournaments and now only Walter Hagen’s eleven majors, and Jack Nicklaus’s total of eighteen lie ahead of him. Earlier in the week on the Friday Jack Nicklaus had said an emotional farewell to a huge crowd of golf fanatics who applauded him and Tom Watson all the way around the famous old course at Saint Andrews on the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, the headquarters of golf. But this was Tiger Woods’ tournament and he stretched his lead overnight as all of his rivals failed to put in a strong challenge. One by one they fell by the wayside, and in truth Tiger always gave the impression that should a real challenge have materialised, he would have been able to raise his game. Nevertheless he won by five clear shots to confirm once again, as Colin Montgomerie said afterwards, that he is indeed the leading golfer of his generation, possibly any generation. It wasn’t all bad news for Colin, his second place moved him fifty-nine places up the world rankings to twenty-second. Jose Maria Olazabal finished a creditable joint third on minus eight, sharing the third prize with a delighted Freddie Couples. As for the other challengers Retief Goosen and Vijay Singh fell away and were never able to land a blow, the same could be said for Sergio Garcia, and Kenny Perry. Ian Poulter finished the best placed Englishman in what was ultimately another poor overall showing by the UK based players. The weather remained fine throughout the four days of competition with barely a shower of rain. Occasionally the wind blew but never gale force as it can do on this exposed Scottish east coast course. The crowds came in their droves, forty thousand more than last year, and despite the one sided victory everyone enjoyed the week. Once again the old course failed to throw up a hole in one, there hasn’t been one on this course in the Open Championship since Ben Crenshaw’s in 1984. Before the championship began Tiger was available on the betting exchanges and in the betting tents at 3/1 against and a huge tip went round that Tiger was in the mood to do the business. Plenty of huge bets were struck and many of the professional punters went home happy to thoroughly toast Tiger throughout the evening. Just for once the bookmakers must have taken a battering. Aint that a shame! Next year the championship returns to England, and to Hoylake for the first time since 1969. Hoylake is a seaside links too, set on the Wirral beside the Dee estuary that looks out across Hilbre Island and over to North Wales and Snowdonia beyond. Tiger has already sent out a warning to all the others. They will have to improve considerably down on Liverpool Bay if they are to stand any chance of removing the coveted claret jug from Tiger’s iron grip. | June 14th, 2008 | Wrestling Workout Equipment |
If you are training for professional or amateur wrestling it is very important to have the right equipment that helps you to gain wrestling strength. The following can be helpful for getting started: Brief Workouts The workouts should never exceed 35 minutes in duration, as If they do, you aren’t working hard enough to complete your workout. The ability to recuperate from the workouts, and therefore develop more strength, is increased when you complete your workout within the stipulated time. Long and strenuous workouts will eventually cut into your body’s ability to recuperate, and lead to over-training. Using Machines and Free Weights There is a common misconception amongst athletes and coaches that you must use free weights when strength training. Free weights are great! So are machines! Your muscles don’t know the difference. The intensity is the most important thing when trying to improve your strength for wrestling. The tool that you use to get there is not. I like certain exercises for certain muscles. It also depends on injuries that a wrestler might already have. You can work around and injury and still give the body a thorough strength workout. If you have access to Hammer Strength machines, I highly recommend that you include them in your wrestling strength workout. Using thick bar The thick bar is usually a hollow metal tube that you put free weights on the end of. A thick bar forces you to hold on tightly when performing exercises. It develops fantastic forearm and hand strength. It should be part of every serious strength-training program for wrestlers. You can do curls, reverse curls, rows, and presses with it. The Trap Bar The trap bar another piece of equipment that helps to gain wrestling strength. The trap bar is a hexagonally shaped bar that allows you to perform dead lifts with maximal stimulation of almost every muscle vital to improved wrestling performance. An exercise that will make your entire body stronger. Find more wrestling resources including wrestling shoes and mud wrestling on http://www.allwrestlingworld.com/. | May 27th, 2008 | World Cup Draw 2006 |
The draw for the 2006 football World Cup was held in Leipzig Germany on December 9th 2005. This is the greatest sporting event on earth after the Olympic games and has been eagerly looked forward to. The 32 teams were allocated into 8 groups of four in a televised ceremony that was watched live in over one hundred and sixty countries. The top two teams in each group will progress to the straight knockout stages. The first team drawn from the balls was England, could that be an omen, could they possibly end the tournament finishing first? Fifa had controversially seeded them second, due in part to their recent thrilling injury time win over the old foe, Argentina. Group A consists of Germany, Costa Rica, Poland & Ecuador Group B consists of England, Paraguay, Trinidad & Tobago, & Sweden Group C consists of Argentina, Ivory Coast, Serbia & Montenegro, & Holland Group D consists of Mexico, Iran, Angola, & Portugal Group E consists of Italy, Ghana, the USA, & the Czech Republic Group F consists of Brazil, Croatia, Australia & Japan Group G consists of France, Switzerland, South Korea, & Togo Group H consists of Spain, Ukraine, Tunisia, & Saudi Arabia The matches kick off in Munich on June 9th and will last a month, the final being played on July 9th in Berlin. While it is easy to look at the groups and pick the likely two qualifiers, we all know that is not how it will turn out. Memories are fresh of the failure of the holders France to progress from the group stage in 2002, dumped out after barely scoring a goal by the likes of Senegal. The odds makers were quick to cut England’s odds slightly to 6/1 to win the tournament on the back of what looks like an easier group. There will be hundreds of millions of pounds traded on this event worldwide before the winners are known. You can still obtain a free £20 bet on betfair.com by entering the promotional code 6CHE3VPWJ when prompted. The favourites remain multi winners and current holders Brazil, but the usual suspects Italy, Holland, Spain, France, England, Argentina, & Portugal all have their enthusiastic followers. Don’t forget Germany too, for on their own soil they will be very hard to beat, even if on paper they do not have a great side this time. Trophies are never won on paper, and they will be there or thereabouts, they always are. Groups C & E look the toughest to qualify through. The African challenge is greater and possibly stronger than ever before despite their two most successful nations, Nigeria and Cameroon, failing to make it this time. Can the Asian countries, particularly Japan and South Korea, maintain the huge progress they made in 2002, although of course that was on home soil, and it will be interesting to see how Australia perform. They have qualified for the first time since 1974 and they did recently beat England, albeit in a friendly game where England played two different teams through the match. Most of the Australian players ply their trade in the English premiership, so they will know many of the other players well enough, and vice versa. I must mention first time qualifiers Trinidad and Tobago, the smallest nation to make it to Germany, and how delighted they must have been to draw England. Their talisman and former European Cup winner Dwight York will lead his nation with great pride. Most of the T & T players play their football in the English lower leagues, but that will make them only a more dangerous opponent, and England will certainly not take them lightly. It promises to be the greatest football tournament yet seen, and certainly more overseas supporters will travel to Germany than ever before. Provisional figures suggest that England will take over 100,000 supporters alone, and when you consider that at some grounds only 30,000 tickets will go on open sale, it promises to produce a mighty scramble for them. Holland, France and Italy will also take huge followings, as will the Czech Republic, Spain, Sweden and Poland. German hotelkeepers are in for a very busy summer. England hope to do well, though deep down everyone suspects yet another Brazilian victory led by their flamboyant star Ronaldhino, but an England versus Brazil final would be an attraction worth seeing. That’s the hope in England for sure. David Carter’s latest published work is SPLAM! Successful Property Letting And Management. | May 19th, 2008 | Centenarian or Bust! |
Can you remember the millennium hype of 1999? Fast approaching was the coming new year - 2000! Sure, it was the mark of a 1,000 year period, but it was also the mark of the next century, which was a victory in itself and no less exciting. Periodicals, books and broadcasts would collectively take accountability for reaching another aged milestone. It was quite obvious the squeaky clean and fresh young faces reporting on the subject were not even privy to eight-track tapes nor the game of Pong and I am willing to bet the silent writers of many similar articles had barely a wrinkle to claim. Therefore, the “we” that they would boast was more of a false possession to ownership rather than in the literal sense of the word. Fortunately, it looks like “we” will have a whole new meaning in the coming years. Rather than our beautiful Earth being the majority possessor of the actual hundred years gone past, more and more individuals will be claiming the title of Centenarian. Currently, sixty thousand Centenarians are living in the United States. And, amazingly, it is estimated that by the year 2050, there could be as many as one million. So what is the secret of these blessed souls of longevity? Was it diet and exercise? Was it their hopeful move to the country? What could possibly postpone the prerequisite to the inevitable next beginning? Scientists have long conducted case studies hoping to narrow in on the secret formula to a long life. Without a doubt, there seems to be a primary common factor. According to Dr. Richard Kerber of the University of Utah, smoking is “the one thing that affects longevity the most.” And might I add, it is not only a relatively sure bet for premature demise, but also makes for a mighty unpleasant jaunt along the way. Aside from smoking, there are many complex formulas contributing to each Centenarian’s lifespan that ethnicity, socio-economical class nor special diets fail to pinpoint. The search will surely be relentless. In the interim, there is another factor that has been proven to postpone the aging process time and again - exercise. A new initiative - National Blueprint: Increasing Activity Among Adults 50 and Older - is striving toward a national campaign in order to make physical activity more comprehensible to older adults. This measure aims to include educational fitness programs, exercise-supportive advice by clinicians and even the possibility of some of these fitness expenses being covered by healthcare. Aside from all the healthcare prospects, simply knowing that the golden years are getting all this long overdue attention is a treasureable notion in itself. And, jeez, doesn’t it make you feel young again? From where you stand now to the end point of your own century…makes me feel like grabbing a lollipop and playing a quick game of hopscotch. | May 12th, 2008 | The Key Rule In Getting Your Golf Swing Plane Right |
Getting the golf swing plane right and virtually perfecting this key aspect of the game is the deepest desire in the heart of any golfer. This is not too difficult to understand because the golf swing plane ultimately determines the quality of the golf swing. The golf swing in turn determines the overall quality of game the golfer will play and his final score. His general score and performance are all heavily dependant on the golf swing and it’s quality. Getting your golf swing plane correct is easier said than done because of various factors. In the past golfers would take years of practice to get their golf swing plane right. These days things have changed dramatically with the entry to the sport in the recent past, of a new breed of professional golfer. This new breed of golfer has been more agile, much more physically fit and in fact a regular exerciser. This is a far cry from the golfer of old in the days when exercise was unheard of in this sport that was considered strictly leisure. The result is that golfers are able to perform much better and get their golf swing plane right. At times this is even happening to junior golfers who are much younger. Some are barely in their teens while others are even younger. What is coming out clearly is the fact that golf specific exercises play a key role in helping any golfer dramatically improve on their game quicker and perfect various aspects of their game much more rapidly, like the golf swing plane for example. Golf specific exercises usually include a wide range of different categories of exercises designed to stretch muscles, condition them and most important strengthen for better performance and a higher level of endurance on the course. The end result is an excellent golf swing plane. ![]() About The Author: Mike Pedersen is one of the top golf fitness experts in the country, author of the Ultimate Golf Fitness Guide, and founder of several cutting-edge online golf fitness sites. | April 27th, 2008 | Start with the Short Game and Build Up to the Full Swing |
The best way to master the game of golf is to begin closest to the hole to farthest away - from short putts to the full swing. The reason is simple: the short game is a microcosm of the full swing. In many cases, the skills utilized in short game shots the same as those used in the full swing, just on a smaller scale. Closer to the hole, the swing is at its shortest and least complex: a smaller motion made using fewer body parts and thus less to coordinate. The full swing is the most complex, a much larger motion with many more moving parts at a higher rate of speed. Trying to master the full swing without first mastering the short game is like trying to gallop on a horse before you’ve learned to climb on. A corollary of this truth is that many problems in the full swing can be spotted within the short game and vice versa. For example, if you come out of posture in your full swing, you will tend to do the same in your short game and will probably miss a fair number of putts. If you tend to reverse-pivot in your full swing, chances are you do this in your pitch shots as well. Improving your short game will not only make you a better scorer overall, but it will have positive repercussions throughout your game. As you work on and master your short-game shots, you will not only iron out the problems you are having in these particular shots, but your full swing will likewise benefit. You will also develop feelings you need to understand and incorporate (e.g., what a proper pivot feels like) while working through your short game that you should also feel in your full swing. This is not to say you won’t be using both short game shots and full swing as you play a full round - but during practice time, which you must incorporate into your golf time to develop a solid game, the best way is to start small and work up from there.
